In the 1870's and 80's a gang of Oro roughnecks terrorized Simcoe County, robbing farms, brawling in taverns and intimidating not only the locals, but the police constables too. They were led by Big Sandy McDuff, the baddest of the bad men, a tavern roisterer who could beat any man in a fight. It took ten years for the law to finally catch up with them, leaving McDuff a legendary, defining character of Orillia's "Wild Times". "But remember, Sandy McDuff did terrorize and humiliate people, he did steal horses that were utterly essential to a farm operation, he did ruin people's lives. And for what? For fun."
