Driftwood and Stones is my home-based business where I create baskets, lidded baskets, bowls, and trinket baskets from rope coils.
I started making these items after purchasing a basket at a craft sale. That basket was made with coiled raffia. Although I loved that basket, the raffia eventually broke down and the basket fell apart. I decided to make my own using rope - and never looked back!
I am excited to let you know that the rope I use is made right here in Cannington Ontario. It is 100% cotton which creates a sturdy vessel. The item you have purchased has either been wrapped with cotton or wool fibres.
I grew up in Sudbury, Ontario and spent my summers at our camp on an island in the North Channel of Georgian Bay. There was an island there we called “Money Island" and the entire island’s shoreline is covered with small stones that have been smoothed into roundish shapes by wave action. Each time I attach one of these stones to my work I am transported back to my childhood on hot summer days!
The driftwood I use comes from beaches on Vancouver Island. These little pieces have been washed ashore and dried by the sun. A little piece of Canada!
I suggest spot cleaning with a damp cloth then allowing your vessel to dry completely. It can be molded back into shape afterwards.
